unbun

Rating: 2.5 Pugs

This gluten free, grain free, keto bun is the first keto bun I have tried. The bun packs a punch with 240 calories, 12g of fiber, 10g of protein, and 15g of fat. Normally I wouldn’t buy a bun with that much fat content but I wanted to give it a try. I consider myself a bit of a gluten free product guinea pig. I like to try as many products as I can and then write reviews on them. If you go under categories on my menu bar, you can take a look at the reviews I have done so far.

Now, back to the unbun! The bun was a bit spongy but had a texture similar to other gluten free bread products I have tried. I would describe the flavour to be roasted nutty. The first time I ate one, I used it for my egg and bacon breakfast sandwich. I found the ratio to be off (too much bun). I then tried it with a juicy burger and toppings and found the ratio to be just right. The burger also added moisture to the bun.

Ingredients: water, almond flour, egg white, flax, coconut flour, psyllium husk, whole egg, apple cider vinegar, cream of tartar, salt, and sodium bicarbonate. Allergen warning: contains tree nuts and eggs.

Because I am only gluten free, I would probably not buy this product again. The fat and calorie count aren’t worth it to me. I would however, like to try their untortilla. If you are keto, gluten free and grain free, you should give it a try, It might just be what your sandwiches are waiting for!

unbun also has a wide variety of unbread products, for more info click here. I think their naming system is quite clever. unbun, untortilla, unbread… you get the picture.

Fun Fact: Did you know that almonds aren’t actually nuts? They are found inside fruit pits, similar to the peach!
